As counselors and couples clinicians we’re called upon to help our clients summon the courage to show up in their relationships, to risk the vulnerability of being seen and heard, to learn how to listen and see the “other” because we know it to be a path that facilitates healing, growth and connection.
Being brave is the willingness to show up and be seen. Full aliveness requires this level of vulnerability because we know that a sense of safety, love and connection is only cultivated only in moments of vulnerability. Vulnerability is also a birthplace of joy and innovation and creativity. We understand that we are hardwired for connection.
The physics of vulnerability is simple:
If we are brave enough, often enough, we will fall.
We’re going to take a deep look how, after a fall or struggle, to get back up and be more courageous, more compassionate and more connected. What do people have in common and how we can help our couples/clients and ourselves cultivate more of that?
Rising Strong: The Reckoning, The Rumble, The Revolution.
This course will teach you how to identify when you (or your clients) are emotionally triggered when your limbic system is hijacked, and how that knocks on the door of your storyteller which is now on steroids. We are wired for story; storytelling helps us make sense of the world and decide who’s safe and who’s not. Learn how that plays out in every conflict in any relationship.
Learning to challenge the story is important. In Imago we like to use the phrase “The story I’m telling myself is…..” The reckoning and the rumble walks us through the connections between being triggered (or emotionally hijacked) and the way we’re wired for story as a way of making sense of our world. The revolution is what occurs when we learn to cultivate a language to articulate our stories and challenge them.
*Please note that this course is for educational purposes only and will not credential participants to facilitate the Rising Strong™ curriculum upon completion, nor will participants have access to materials that are only available for Certified Facilitators.
