In this two-day intensive webinar, learn how art therapy can be used by a therapist to deepen individuals’ and couples’ ability for self-awareness and self-expression. Creative Arts therapy can bypass the boundaries of linear thinking and establish a deeper empathic connection to one’s partner and oneself. Slide and film presentations will be used along with discussion and art therapy experiential exercises to illustrate this creative therapy process.
After this course, participants will be able to:
- Name three benefits of creative arts therapy.
- Detect and notice how visual imagery manifests as a symbolic language.
- Practice and learn how to recognize and use reparative symbols that are created and integrated into the treatment.
- Name three art therapy directives for individuals.
- Name three art therapy directives for couples.
- Detect and notice that the client’s artwork in the slide presentation changed and developed over time, mirroring his progress.
- Express and recognize how art therapy helped the client in the slide presentation
- Detect and notice how the couple in the film used art therapy to share appreciations, mirror and empathize with each other.
- Explain how to introduce art therapy in an Imago couples therapy session.
- Describe three ways to utilize art therapy with Imago relationship therapy.

Bonnie Hirschhorn LP, NCPsyA, LCSW, LCAT is a highly skilled therapist with over 35 years of experience. She has a master's degree in Art Therapy and another in Clinical Social Work. She has completed a 10-year postgraduate program in Expressive Psychoanalysis. She is licensed as an Art Therapist, Psychoanalyst and Clinical Social Worker and she is certifi ed as an Imago Relationship Therapist, Hypnotherapist and Yoga Instructor.
Through her many years of experience, Bonnie has developed a unique way of integrating non-verbal therapeutic modalities such as art, movement, drama, somatic awareness, and guided meditation with in-depth verbal processing in her work with individuals and couples.
