Revisioning Your Life:
Preparing to slow down your practice with your head & heart

presented by Cheryl Dolinger Brown

Many of us are now in or close to our wise, eldering years. Others who have done Imago therapy for years and are still working many hours are curious about what lies ahead of them. It's helpful for all of us who are passionate about our work to look ahead, see what we have contributed and what we still want to do professionally and personally. We may choose to change the focus or amount of work we do to allow for time to explore other personal or community interests. Rarely do we talk about it in a professional setting and there is scant professional literature of the topic. With written exercises, in dyads and in our larger group we will examine the losses to our clients and ourselves in changing our work and the excitement of looking to expand our worlds.

We are fortunate to be part of a profession where we might never want to fully retire from work which we find so satisfying. Yet we may also voluntarily choose to spend our active older years pursuing interests we haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy earlier.  In this workshop we will be examining the life of the therapist, rather than the professional client work of the therapist.

Learning Objectives

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • Develop a plan to slow down or end sessions
  • Create a list of practical issues to explore (making referrals, insurance, records, licensing, ethical concerns)
  • Decide which areas of our professional lives will continue and which will end
  • Learn steps to prepare our clients for the loss of our therapeutic relationship and work and anticipate their reactions— and ours
  • Create a short term and long term vision for our future

This webinar will be presented online via Zoom and is intended for Certified Imago Therapists, Facilitators and Educators, Imago Therapists, Facilitators and Educators in Training, and therapists in general at the advanced level.

There is no conflict of interest or commercial support for this program.
