Imago Through the Developmental Lens

Online Advanced Training

presented by Sophie Slade and Jesica Eames

Continue your own journey of self-awareness, growth and healing.

In this training we will look at the developmental threads of Connecting, Exploration, Identity and Competence to gain an understanding of the dynamics of each and how they manifest in couples: the language, behavior and flavor of the developmental issues. We will look at how we, as Imago practitioners, can be most attuned to the underlying developmental needs and challenges so that we can most effectively adapt our own ways of being to respond to our couples and help them increase their awareness and stretch into the new possibilities that are embedded in their current conflicts.

Course Description

We will use theory discussions, visualizations and experiential exercises to deepen our own awareness and understanding of the developmental threads. We will practice being both client and therapist/practitioner as we work in triads to get a flavour of what it is like for the client and for the therapist working with these couples. We will also have opportunities to share case descriptions to illuminate our challenges and successes.

This training is intended for Imago Therapists,  Imago Professional Facilitators and therapists in general at the intermediate level.

Learning Objectives

As a participant you will...

  • Understand more fully the childhood origins of adult conflicts
  • Develop more tools as Imago practitioners for guiding couples, that are attuned to the developmental issues they are trying to work through
  • Experience being a client struggling to get your needs met and how Imago can help you shift to a cycle of healing and growth
  • Experience being a therapist highly attuned to the developmental struggles of your clients and getting the support of your colleagues in being most effective
About Sophie

Sophie Slade, Ph.D., has been deeply involved in the world of Imago since she did her Basic Clinical Training in 1992 with Harville Hendrix.  As a workshop presenter since 1996 she has traveled the world giving Imago workshops for couples and singles in English and French.  Sophie is a Senior Clinical Instructor on the faculty of the Imago International Training Institute  and has been active in creating new courses and re-writing the Imago Clinical Training manual, as well as teaching internationally.  In 2008 she received the Helen LaKelly Hunt Award for Community Building and in 2014 the Harville Hendrix Award for Clinical Excellence.  People describe Sophie as warm, funny and authentic and say she creates an environment that is safe, respectful and supports personal sharing and learning.  Her use of language, metaphor and personal stories brings the concepts to life.

Sophie was born and raised in London, England, and lived in Marseilles, France, for a year as an au pair, before emigrating to Canada at age 19.  She soon felt unfulfilled in her original career as a secretary and studied clinical psychology over the course of 18 years, completing her doctorate in 1992 - the topic of her dissertation was couple relationships.  During that time she raised two daughters from her first marriage, divorced, started a relationship with her current husband, David, and raised their son. They have been on their Imago journey together since 1991 when they attended the Getting the Love You Want workshop. Sophie paints, writes poetry and has recently completed a book of short stories.
