A consultant’s primary goal is to provide a safe environment for learning, in the service of personal growth and the expansion of professional skills. You will have an opportunity to present cases AND you will learn from your colleagues as they also present cases.
A note from Gail...
When I first started Imago therapy training, I fell in love, as many of you also did . After more 30 years of being an Imago therapist, Imago Therapy, the Imago Dialogue and Imago Theory are the roots of my practice. However, Imago Therapy and other couples therapy approaches do not teach the skills of sex therapy, which are based in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. I receive many referrals from skilled couples therapists who feel insecure to address sexual issues. For Imago therapists to integrate sex therapy into their skill set is a powerful, deepening experience.
Being part of this group will help you address the topic of sexuality with your clients and learn some skills to address any sexuality dysfunction or issue. By the end of this 6-month group, you will have more Imago connections with your colleagues and developed confidence to help your clients deepen their emotional and sexual connection. You do not need any prior knowledge about sex therapy. Join us!

As a therapist with more than 30 years’ experience, Gail Guttman’s goals in therapy are to help her clients live their lives, realize their potential and remain in a positive, loving connection with their most important relationships. Most of her clients are searching to overcome their depression or anxiety in order to fully function and improve their self-esteem. Couples seek therapy to address a rupture in their connection and work to restore, repair, heal and deepen that connection. Gail’s couples’ therapy helps each person become empowered to change their behavior in order to foster closeness. As a couples’ therapist specializing in sex therapy, she offers the unique opportunity for clients to address their sexual concerns within the context of their relationship, addressing many factors that affect sexuality.
Gail’s passion includes helping psychotherapists become more competent and confident in practicing couples and sex therapy. She conducts ongoing consultation groups, focusing on theories relating to couples and sex therapy. In these consultation groups, cases are also discussed, providing an important support network for therapists. Gail conducts training workshops and seminars at professional associations and conferences, such as the Greater Washington Society of Clinical Social Workers, Imago Relationships International, The Integrated Sex Therapy Institute and the Modern Sex Therapy Institute. She is a Continuing Education provider for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).
Gwen Pearl and Gail Guttman developed a dynamic group practice more than 30 years ago. They serve the needs of individuals and couples in Washington, D.C. and Suburban Maryland.
As an authority on couples’ relationships and sexuality difficulties, Gail was selected as a “Top Therapist” in 2009 and 2012 by Washingtonian Magazine. As a Certified Imago Couples and Singles Therapist, Advanced Imago Clinician, Certified Imago Consultant and Certified Imago Community Educator, Gail is well versed in couples therapy. Becoming a Certified Sex Therapist, Sex Therapy Supervisor, and CE provider, through the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), has helped Gail be comfortable in addressing sexuality with all her clients. Additionally, training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Gestalt Therapy has assisted in shaping Gail’s philosophy.
