Why do we fight over money?

Couple shopping

Many many couples fight over money and that makes sense.  We are not taught to talk about money in our culture so we don't have language around that. Money is also necessary for survival so we can easily get reactivated around it. Imago helps you carefully discuss this topic and discover what's really going on underneath the reactivity.

It's never about money...money represents so many other things. Everyone is brought up having a relationship with money; exploring this relationship in the context of IMAGO can help couples navigate this in a healthier manner.

Fear, shame and vulnerability are often at the source of conflict around money issues. Fear that there won't be enough; shame around one's inability to provide as much as one "should;" and the vulnerability that comes up around those feelings. Learning how to explore these feelings through the IMAGO dialogue opens up a safe place for each partner to share their perspective without feeling blamed or judged by the other.
