Anyone who was ever a child can understand and apply conscious parenting! This course is for you if you’re a parent or if any of your clients are parents.  Bringing the principles of the relational paradigm and the Imago Dialogue this course creates a plan for “upstream clean-up” by helping parents fully understand the needs of children. Based on the latest research into neuroscience and child development, you’ll learn practical tools to use every day to help your child develop into a healthy relational adult. 

Based on the book Giving the Love That Heals, by Harville Hendrix and Helen La Kelly Hunt, Connected Parents, Thriving Kids: the Imago Parenting Program is presented over 8 weekly online classes that make learning fun and accessible.

Learning Objectives & Agenda

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss connection as a fundamental emotional need, in relationship to brain function and brain development

  • Describe the stages of development

  • Demonstrate and integrate validating our children’s perceptions and way of thinking

  • Demonstrate and integrate experiencing and expressing empathy with our children’s feelings

  • Interpret the impact of childhood on parenting style

  • Discuss and recognize children’s need for limits and connection

  • Practice H.O.L.D. – setting limits while maintaining connection

  • Explain and restructure ‘I-Know’ talk and symbiosis

  • Describe the neurobiology of reactivity

  • Summarize how reactivity can damage the relationship and the individual‘s sense of self

  • Apply ways to help children self-soothe

  • Discuss and recognize the impact of early wounding on the way you or your client’s parent your/their children

  • Plan personal goal map for future

  • Describe patterns of behavior that indicate unmet needs

  • Differentiate between needs and wants in the developing child

  • Explain the impact of childhood relational trauma on adult functioning

This program is intended for Certified Imago Therapists, Imago Therapists in Training, Certified Imago Facilitators and Educators, Certified Imago Workshop Presenters from beginning to advanced level. This program is also appropriate for parents or people who work with parents (the general public). There is no conflict of interest or commercial support for this program.

Marcia Ferstenfeld, M.A., CIRT, CI is known for her keen grasp of the heart of Imago theory and practice. She has been a moving force in Imago since 1993. Marcia brings warmth, humor, clarity, knowledge and intuition to her teaching which creates a learning environment that benefits every learning style.
